2997. APACHES’ LAST BATTLE (Shatterhand) (Old Shatterhand) (1964-France-ltaly-West Germany-Yugoslavia) COLOR. With LEX BARKER, DALIAH LAVI, GUY MADISON, PIERRE BRICE. This rousing adventure of the Old West opens with the Apaches and the United States government about to sign a peace treaty. In the wake of this momentous event, a fabled cowboy named Old Shatterhand and an Apache chieftain known as Winnelou pledge that their friendship will live forever. Then arrows fly, killing a rancher and his wife as their young son looks on helplessly. As you will see, these murderers are not Apaches. Instead, they are a gang of cutthroats who leave evidence pointing the finger at the Apaches as the culprits. The settlers and townsfolk pledge vengeance against the redskins. “I’ll hang the first Apache that crosses my path,” one of them promises. As a result, the peace treaty now is in serious jeopardy of not being signed. The villains are not yet finished with their dastardly deeds. They capture Winnetou’s adopted son Tujunga and string him up for hanging, an act which surely will enrage the Apaches. Fortunately, Old Shatterhand arrives just in time to save Tujunga. What follows is a thrill-packed adventure in which Old Shatterhand will have to uncover the identity of the person behind the killing spree and put a halt to his activities before there is all out war between Indian and white man. Written by a German, filmed in Europe, this was the first of eight films featuring Pierre Brice as the Apache Winnelou. In English. 99 minutes. Western
