Flesh And Blood
1182. FLESH AND BLOOD (1922-usa). With Lon chaney, edith roberts, de witt Jennings, noah BEERY, ralph LEWIS. Directed by IRVING CUMMINGS. Flesh and Blood may not be as well-known as other Lon Chaney features (like “The Phantom of the Opera” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”), but it more than holds its own next to these classics. The Man of a Thousand Faces offers a chilling performance as David Webster, a lawyer who’s unjustly spent 15 years in prison. At the outset, he escapes, comes to Chinatown, and takes refuge with his loyal old friend Li Fang (Noah Beery). He yearns to see his wife, who is ill, and arrives home just in time to observe her funeral procession. The embittered Webster most creatively disguises himself as a crippled beggar and comes in contact with his daughter (Edith Roberts}, who is known as “Angel-lady.” She manages a mission, thinking her father is dead; their scene together in the mission is especially touching. Webster is intent on gaining revengeÑbut wouldn’t you know that his child is in love with the son of the man who caused his suffering! Will he carry out his plan for revenge, which will surely ruin his daughter’s happiness? Or will he sacrifice himself for her? An exceptionÂally suspenseful, atmospheric and poignant drama, and an exceptionally fine quality print. Silent film with music Score, correct projection speed. 74 minutes. ÒSilentÓ Drama
