Roman Holiday

September 15, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

As part of its Icon Series, Flaming Classics is pleased to celebrate the legendary actress Audrey Hepburn with a 65th Anniversary screening of ROMAN HOLIDAY on 35mm. In addition to seeing this classics film, for which Hepburn won a Best Actress Oscar, we are pleased to have Professor Margaret Cardillo to read from her children’s book JUST BEING AUDREY and Jupiter Velvet giving an Audrey-inspired performance following the film. Following our screenings of THE LITTLE MERMAID and HOCUS POCUS, ROMAN HOLIDAY is our next kid-friendly event. The reading, screening, and performance are all FREE! Join us for this unique experience.

ROMAN HOLIDAY:
Overwhelmed by a suffocating schedule, Princess Ann (Audrey Hepburn) escapes to explore Rome. While on her adventure she meets American reporter Joe Bradly (Gregory Peck). The film is a tale about loyalty, love, and finding your own path making it a queer classic.

JUST BEING AUDREY:
From Roman Holiday to Breakfast at Tiffany’s, when Audrey Hepburn starred in a movie, she lit up the screen. Her unique sense of fashion, her grace, and, most important, her spirit made her beloved by generations. But her life offscreen was even more luminous. As a little girl growing up in Nazi-occupied Europe, she learned early on that true kindness is the greatest measure of a person—and it was a lesson she embodied as she became one of the first actresses to use her celebrity to shine a light on the impoverished children of the world through her work with UNICEF. This is Audrey Hepburn as a little girl, an actress, an icon, an inspiration; this is Audrey just being Audrey.

Before the film enjoy a reading by Margaret Cardillo from her book JUST BEING AUDREY and after the film see a performance by Jupiter Velvet as Audrey Hepburn.

This presentation is supported by the Miami-Dade Country Department of Cultural Affairs, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Coral Gables Community Foundation, City of Coral Gables Cultural Grants, and the Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies.
