Rehearsal

1281. REHEARSAL (c. 1947-USA). The Bell Telephone Hour, with EZIO PINZA, BLANCHE TKEBOM; DONALD VOORHEES conducting the Bell Telephone Orchestra, announcers FLOVD MACK and TOM SHIRLEY. Although the program was on NBC radio from 1940 to 1958 and NBC television for ten years after that, this film, produced by Bell Telephone is neither. It takes us instead to Studio 68 at Radio City to watch the regular Monday afternoon rehearsal Of the show before air time that evening. Pinza sings two arias, Blanche Thebom sings one and then does a duet with Pinza. Donald Voorhees is shown meticulously rehearsing the orchestra. Even the two announcers run through their copy for that evening. Winning a Peabody among many other awards, the program was a major cultural event in broadcasting history. This is a rarely seen glimpse Of how the show was put together. A must for lovers Of good music as well as those who remember when a network audience was treated with intelligence and taste. 24 minutes. Television-Music
